THE ANIMAL KINGDOM TAKES BACK THE STREETS

La Estampida is a public art project on an unprecedented scale. In the spring of 2025, cities along a route that wends its way from West Africa to Norway will be overrun by a stampede of life-size animal puppets fleeing north to escape climate disaster. This is the story of the collapse of our system and of nature’s fight against civilisation. Amir Nizar Zuabi, artistic director of La Estampida and Muriel Romero, artistic director of the Compañía Nacional de Danza are creating a special event for El Matadero with the Company’s dancers and puppets from the animal kingdom.

The Walk Productions is a non-profit agency that creates large-scale international participatory public art that brings communities together to challenge preconceived ideas and rethink narratives in order to inspire change. Spain’s Compañía Nacional de Danza was founded in 1979 and is currently directed by Muriel Romero. The CND is dedicated to promoting and disseminating the art of dance based on excellence, offering all styles, with a didactic, inclusive and diverse vocation, respecting the past while evolving towards a future in which other disciplines, such as video or artificial intelligence, have a place.
