Martha Graham Dance Company
100º ANIVERSARIO MARTHA GRAHAM DANCE COMPANY
About the show
As part of its centennial celebration, the Martha Graham Dance Company presents deeply moving Graham classics alongside electrifying new works by two of today’s most renowned choreographers. The company’s performances on its Spanish tour open with Graham’s most lyrical and passionate work, Diversion of Angels, a 1948 abstract essay on the universal aspects of love.
The following solo, Immediate Tragedy, was created by Graham in 1937 as a response to the war in Spain. Its themes of perseverance and resilience remain relevant today and are also strongly felt in the program’s final work, We the People, by choreographer Jamar Roberts. This high-energy piece, set to music by Rhiannon Giddens, celebrates the power of community and the strength of people coming together to shape the future.
The program concludes with CAVE, the relentless and cathartic celebration of dance created in 2022 by the acclaimed UK-based choreographer Hofesh Shechter. This work invariably elicits an ecstatic reaction from audiences.
The full program showcases some of the world’s most accomplished and brilliant dancers, performing choreographies that span more than nine decades.
For all audiences.
